All materials become charged with static electricity through friction or induction from an electric field. When a charged material comes into contact with a material that has a different electric charge potential, a discharge occurs. These discharges can cause significant problems in industrial and healthcare facilities: malfunctions in electronic components and electrical systems sensitive to discharges, the risk of explosions and fires due to proximity to flammable or explosive substances, contamination of manufacturing processes by airborne particles, or even discomfort for staff (in the form of electric shocks).

To prevent this, it is essential to install flooring that has been treated to ensure the immediate dissipation of any static electricity that may build up on its surface—conductive flooring that does not generate electricity but instead dissipates it.

This applies to industries with a risk of explosion (oil extraction, the military, gas stations, etc.) or to the electronics industry (telecommunications, computers, “clean rooms,” high-voltage and power supply systems, manufacturing of electrical components, etc.)
